A Beautiful Collection of Custom Drawings

Pet Studies are like sketches taken straight from an artists' sketchbook. I draw using ink, soluble graphite, soluble carbon and charcoal, working quickly and intuitively, aiming to capture expression, movement and texture.

My "Pet Studies" are designed to be commissioned as part of a beautiful collection of sketches rather than singular drawings or "Pet Portraits". I feel they are best appreciated like this because they offer a fully rounded exploration of a pet's character, with the potential to show them doing all the things they love - running, playing, sleeping. A Selection of Pet Studies is a unique and highly personalised gift, or can be used to create an effective gallery display of your pets on the wall in your home.

Photo Guide

Please provide a mixture of photographs of your animals(s) for me to choose and work from. I recommend between 10-20 photographs. I won't use them all, so if there are particular photographs you would like me to use for a specific sized drawings - for example, to fit into frames you want to use - please let me know.

Don't forget that Pet Studies are intended to be loose sketches on simple paper, and therefore the quality of your photographs is not necessarily important as I am not looking for the level of sharp detail needed for a single portrait. Often it is the more obscure, casual and unposed photographs in your collection that inspire the most beautiful sketches. I particularly enjoy drawing dogs running on beaches, walking through the woods or sleeping peacefully in random positions. I am also able to include people in the sketches if they are in the photos, but please remember that I am not a people portraitist and so I cannot guarantee a portrait likeness of a person's face up close. Obscure figures tend to work best.
